On the afternoon of Thursday, March 21, our students made 158 “tie blankets” for the Animal Humane Society and Second Hand Hounds. We matched older students with younger students to work together to accomplish making these blankets. This project was made possible by a District 279 Foundation grant.
During this school year, Cedar Island has conducted 4 school wide service projects. The first project was to collect children’s books for Hospitality House which is an after school program for children in North Minneapolis. We collected 2,200 books and PTO donated money for bookshelves to house those books.
The second project was to make “grab and go” bags for cancer patients at the Hope House in St. Paul. Below is a link for a story that appeared on CCX.

Students also collected money this year for Pennies for Patients. The money will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find cures for blood cancers.
Our final service project will be a food drive; this will be conducted towards the end of the school year.
Thank you to all Cedar Island students, staff, and families for supporting these service projects.
